Good News Story – Hailsham’s Own Superman!

September 13, 2022

Keith Dickman doesn’t often shout about what he does, but if you scratch beneath the surface you will find nothing much less than a superman!  For many years he has been raising money for charities – Marie Curie, Demelza Hospice Care for Children, Great Ormond Street and the British Heart Foundation , to name just a few, and there are many others. He is also an active member of Hailsham Lions. In September he is attempting to climb Kilimanjaro to raise money for Demelza, at the age of 63.

You can see him on his static bike outside the BP garage at Pevensey some days raising money towards the trip, and last weekend the garage ran a raffle to support him too. He cycled for 5hrs last Thursday and a further 6hrs on Saturday. He will be doing more “rides” during August to raise awareness of Demelza, as well as funds.

On chatting to this man I feel exhausted just listening to what he gets up to.- amongst his charity fundraising efforts he has done sponsored cycle rides, bungee jumps, abseils, long  distance walks and is waiting to be allowed to do a wing-walk, but still has to knock off a few pounds!  Weight is a vital condition for that event. He works in a care home and  also drives people with vision impairment to any appointments or meetings they need to attend with East Sussex Vision Support.

If he should find any spare time you will find him running a healthy eating stall at the major music festivals (Glastonbury, Reading etc.) and still finding time to travel the country visiting friends and family.

Somehow I think he manages to find 48 hours in every day!  And where he finds the energy…?  Well done Keith!  I hope people in Hailsham will continue to support him.
