Mayor donates more money to local charities and community groups

May 5, 2021

The Mayor of Hailsham has made further donations to local voluntary associations, community groups and youth services, after he came in under budget on his allocated mayoral allowance at the end of the last financial year.

Town councillors agreed a request by Mayor & Chairman Cllr Holbrook to allocate funds from the Mayoral Allowance, amounting to over £1,000, with £100 donations going to Hailsham Bonfire Society, Hailsham Horticultural
Society, Hailsham Choral Society, Bird Aid, Environment Hailsham, Healthy Living Club, the Charles Hunt Centre, Hailsham Tennis Club, Hailsham United Junior Football Club, Friends of White House School, Friends of Grovelands School and Hailsham Youth Service (reopening of centres post-lockdown).

Any remaining money from the 2020/21 Mayoral Allowance will be donated to support local initiatives soon, details of which will be announced on the Town Council’s social media pages.

Town Mayor Cllr Holbrook commented: “I am extremely pleased to have been able to donate money from my mayoral allowance to some of our local, very important community groups and charitable organisations. Now more than ever, the charity and community services sectors need support during the pandemic to continue doing the great work they do every day.”

“The £100 I’ve donated to many of the community groups in Hailsham will hopefully make a difference and help them to reopen again once restrictions allow for many of their activities to resume.”
