New delivery service creates sixteen new jobs in Hailsham

February 28, 2020

Waitrose in Hailsham is the first of 24 stores across the country offering a delivery service to customers for the first time – creating sixteen new jobs in the process.

Delivery drivers and product pickers have been recruited to deliver the service and the expansion will allow for more delivery slots to be created for customers within Hailsham and the surrounding area.

James Ormston, Branch Manager at Waitrose & Partners in Hailsham said; “It’s exciting for Hailsham to be leading this push to offer new and better services to our customers, whichever way they choose to shop with us. It’s also really great to be expanding with more people and drivers – we’ve been a part of the town since 2000 and are pleased to be able to create more local jobs.”

Across the country Waitrose.com is going to be opening up more delivery slots, hiring more drivers and shop staff – and is investing to make its website and apps faster, more responsive and more convenient. A team of Waitrose chefs and product developers are working behind the scenes to launch or redevelop 5000 of its own label food this year, to offer innovative new products and ranges to customers.

From 1st September, the supermarket will be parting ways with Ocado, meaning that it will be the exclusive place that Waitrose customers can buy its food online. So in preparation the retailer is investing heavily in ramping up its service to meet the higher demand from customers.
